Yusuke Yamamoto's solo project [channel U] features an enticingly eclectic attitude by merging an adept sense of electronica, dub and jazz with the primal sounds of Africa, Brazil and Asia. Tracks on its newly released first album, "APE-MAN TALKING", exhibit a full range of emotionally engaging music with the use of everything from slick vibes, hypnotic flutes, pacifying melodicas and synths, mesmerizing vocals to world beats, exotic melodies, acoustic instruments and minimal programming. 47.5 is a project from Yusuke Yamamoto and Yoshio Kobayashi. The name of this duo refers to the running tape speed of a cassette, and reflects on their love of new and old technology. Using old triggering systems, analogue synths, dubbed out with tape echo, spring reverb, recorded directly to cassette. They very effectively perform this material live, which is an amazing and inspirational experience as they effortlessly improvise this multi-layered music, with two musicians sounding like a quartet, or quintet. Yusuke is a classical trained, jazz influenced vibraphone and percussion player, who has been developing his musical style by working with looping machines since early 90's, using his electric vibraphone, analog synth, and ambient sound. Yoshio is a drummer who has been working in jazz, dub and Afrobeat styles. On the other hand, he has been having ideas of using electronic elements into his playing style and digging the possibilities of live looping and dubbing, and combining them with his live drumming to create a fresh contrast within his sound. In turns propulsive, atmospheric, moody, abrasive, and serene, this is a sophisticated blend of rock, jazz, dub, and techno that really stretches the ears, and creates an entrancing aural narrative.

NYC club movement Dizzy Ventilators was born in Fall 2008 as the brainchild of Yusuke Yamamoto and Daniel Jodocy. Chimp Beams are an electronic dub trio formed in 2001 by 3 Japanese men, Marihito, K-Go Mizutani and Yusuke Yamamoto who all live in Brooklyn, NY. Their concept is chill out dance music using break beats, vibraphones, guitar and many other live instruments played on top. Having been influenced by Massive Attack and My Bloody Valentine, they mix dub, jazz, rock, techno, rare groove, soul, funk and ethnic music by their own interpretation. Their sound is very hypnotic and psychedelic. The 3 members bring together disparate backgrounds to create a unique Chimp Beams sound. Improvisation is a key element to the live show, as the Chimps twist the songs little more freely, adding some aggressive edge. The debut album "Vibrato" was released from Concent in 2004. The media and club music giants such as Audio Active and Force of Nature in Japan praised it. The first single, "Calm" was a minor hit in club scene and released on a few compilation CD's. Chimps are currently pouring their hearts on recording productions for the future releases and remixes for other artists.

Featuring an impressive roster of side men and soloists, with credits including TV On The Radio, Medeski Martin and Wood, Spoon, Antibalas, Sinead O'Connor, Blonde Redhead, Cibbo Matto, The Temptations, The Delfonics, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, etc., the LP is as sophisticated as it is fun and catchy. Moody, world weary love songs sit comfortably in between psychedelic synth freak-outs and dance floor bangers. Chin Chin aren't afraid to let listeners think a bit while they burn the disco out.

Japanese horror-comical freak metal punk. In Japan, there was a girls punk band called "10 Yen Anakinoko", which the singer Seiko started when she was 15 years old. This band ended after playing their last show in New York in 1995, and they became legend. 5 years later, 10 Yen Anakinoko played a one time reunion show in New York. A guitarist Jun was called in as a support guitar player, and this led to the beginning of the band GELATINE. Only a few hours after this reunion show, Seiko and Jun decided to start a new band. They had two aims to enforce. One was to let the great songs of 10 Yen Anakinoko come alive once again and even take them to a new level. Second aim was just simply to create new and intense music.

Yusuke plays Electric Bass on this album.

Kudu tap into Siouxsie circa 82, dark Chicago House circa 86, deep 70s Funk, and, consciously or not, UK Jungle Techno circa 91. They are real deal, and their music is so primal that they could just as validly be classed a rock act as a jazz or dance act. On stage Kudu are dark and raw and desperate, but their pop potential has always been apparent to anyone with ears for song craft and eyes for charisma. Death of the Party, set to be released on Nublu Records, confirms this perception. In addition to the aforesaid ingredients, Kudu on record have a sense of fun lifted from Deee-Lite, ESG, church in rural Georgia and parades in New Orleans.

~While giving this new Chimp Beams album a first listen, I found myself floating in a world of Twin Peaks dialogue, Lost in Translation imagery, and gut-wrenching Six Feet Under montages. Yes, it's that good. This electronic dub trio has been repping Brooklyn via Japan for a while now, and they do it with respect and consistency. ~~

Chimp Beams makes the kind of dubby downtempo straight out of the mid to late 90s, steeped in the mellow hash aesthetic of reverbed guitars + horns, solid but never hammering drums, and some softy stuff on top that makes it good for boning. This new EP features two instrumentals, "Libyus Mix(1)" and "Rocket Absentee(2)," and one with guest vocalist Roger Kahlon, "Synthesized(3)."

~This is their 12" from 2005 that drips sweet, dubby Balearic downtempo and funk. Dip into the warm keys on the "R2 - Dub Mix(1)" for a second. It's so soothing, can't think of a more perfect antidote to a hectic day. "Vanishing(2)" carries the same mood, taking the groove deeper into the dubby jazz cave. Flip it over for some hard drums on the "Calm - Force Of Nature Remix(3)," giving their Vibrato album cut a funky remix reminiscent of early Mo-Wax, while the dubbed out "Lovely Chimps(4)" brings it to a smooth landing. Take your time with this one, it's real easy.
